Kelvin Lewin purchased Select Service Caterers of Fine Foods Inc. in 2001 after working for the company for nearly two years. Select Service was established in 1986. Kelvin moved the commissary from the original location on Park Street in Kitchener to Cherry Blossom Road in Cambridge. The facilities are larger and much more suitable for catering and her grand ambitions. Kelvin “brings the world” to the kitchen of Select, having lived in and experienced the cultures of England, India, The Netherlands, Germany, New Zealand, The Philippines, France and of course Canada.
After acquiring a BSc in psychology and completing two years of post graduate studies during the globe trotting phase, Kelvin completed the chef training program at George Brown College in Toronto and the apprenticeship portion at Langdon Hall Country House Hotel and Spa in Cambridge, Ontario. Chef Kelvin holds the red seal certification (interprovincial trade certificate), the National Sanitation program certification, is Smart Serve certified and a proud member of the Canadian Federation of Independent Business.
Kelvin will be behind the scenes at your event ensuring that the “back of the house” runs smoothly.
Depending on how large your party is, you may see as few as two of us or as many as 35 of us. Our staff are all hand-selected to represent us and to provide you with the best possible service. All of our staff are employees of Select Service, they are not sourced from a temporary staffing agency, and we pay WSIB premiums to ensure you have no concerns with workplace injuries. Our event staff are hand-selected for each event, and Victoria personally trains every new staff member to meet our high standards of service.
Every event we cater is unique, both in the host’s vision and our customized menus. We encourage you to bring your ideas so we can work together to fulfill your needs. You will notice we do not have set menus listed here, but use the suggested menus as inspiration for your planning.
If you lack ideas, that’s fine too, we’ll review your basic preferences and propose ideas that will dazzle you.
We strategically choose our suppliers to ensure the highest quality ingredients, this sometimes includes are very own herb garden!
When possible, we choose locally sourced and seasonal ingredients to support the local economy and ensure freshness.
We supply biodegradable utensils and take-out containers because we value the environment.
All of our staff are paid ABOVE minimum wage.
